The art is gorgeous, but words cannot succinctly describe how exhausting Transformers: Secrets & Lies is to me. It is 1000% a scripting/plotting problem. There is TOO much going on and every panel is a "fun" bit of fan-service & half of it feels like a rehash of ReGeneration 1.
To give you an idea, in this issue alone, Simon's trying to juggle (unnecessary) backstory/origins for Scorponok, Fort Max, Ultra Magnus, Straxus, Grimlock, the Coneheads, the 1985 Autobot cars, Star Saber, Deathsaurus, Impactor, the Wreckers, Thunderwing, and AUNTIE
It all feels so joyless. The purpose of all these stories seems to be to explain how various characters in the Marvel Transformers comics got to their starting points (or why they weren't present at all). Meanwhile, the main character (Punch/Counterpunch) is narrating EVERYTHING.
Please don't both me with your stale "But the main IDW 2.0 books are boring to me" takes. This thread is literally NOT about those books (which I enjoy) and y'all sound like reply guys.
