WHAT SECRETS DOES YOUR UNI WANT TO KEEP FROM YOU?

Unis hide lots of important info from staff, students & society: they hide bullying, sexual misconduct, discrimination, wrongdoing & all sorts of corruption

WHY?

AND WHY THIS IS BAD FOR YOU & WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Thread
Unis use NDAs, threats and intimidation to keep secrets to protect management’s reputation, the uni’s reputation & escape accountability

This happens in most-if not all-unis: your uni is likely to be doing this, too

2/
Unis use non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) extensively. NDAs are agreements that prevent people from disclosing info.

Unis also regularly threaten staff & students with fake harassment charges & defamation claims if they want to disclosure true info that the unis doesn't like.

3
Unis also monitor the speech of staff & students on campus & on social media. When someone expresses concerns, such as on Covid or overwork, or views that the uni doesn't like, they often face retaliation from uni management.

4/
WHY IS IT BAD FOR ME IF MY UNI CONTROLS THE INFO I RECEIVE?

• Staff & students are put at risk of wrongdoing from known perpetrators the uni's hiding

• NDAs, threats & monitoring of info cost unis hundreds/millions year: this £ should be used on teaching/research/staff’s pay
Unis are supposed to be bastions of free speech. Instead they control info in the same way as dictatorships.

They want staff, students & society to believe a false narrative to hide management’s corruption & incompetence thrives at the expense of staff, students & society.

6/
UNIS CAN BE PREVENTED FROM CONTROLLING INFO

•Join a local union

•Work with other staff & students to demand change within your uni & the sector

•Talk to the media so society can find out re endemic wrongdoing & uni hiding secrets
