#WeeklyMilitaryProfile time. Today on our list we turn our attention to Slovakia.

Slovakian army was created in 1993. As well as the SVK MOD was established based on Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and began its work on 1 January 1993.

On 1 January 2000, the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces merged to form an integrated Ministry of Defence, based in Bratislava.


Slovakia became NATO’s member in 2004. At the end of 2008, the Slovak Republic deployed 551 soldiers of which 313 were in three NATO-led operations, 199 in two UN-led missions and 39 in one EU-led operation.

Slovakia has joined to Finabel in 2006.
