Something the BBC has never really understood - and which it really should - is that it can’t, nor will it ever be able to, appease the Conservative Party.
The Conservative Party will ALWAYS hate the BBC, not because of anything the BBC does, but because of what the BBC IS.

Or rather Conservatives hate the BBC for what it is NOT, ie. “for sale”.
That something as big, powerful and important as the BBC is NOT available to be bought by the highest bidder is anathema to modern Tories.

The fact that BBC News’s timidity around Brexit, its constant vox popping of Leave voters while pretending Remainers didn’t exist, stacking the QT audience with Kippers and going as easy as possible on Boris has just been met with MORE calls to abolish the licence fee etc…

… should demonstrate that the BBC can’t ever placate the right wing. They could install Clarkson as permanent host of HIGNFY with Lawrence Fox and Jim Davidson as team captains and the tabloids would just find something ELSE to decry as lefty whingeing.

The Conservative Party and the right wing establishment don’t seek the BBC’s compliance but its removal, but by the time the BBC realises this it’ll be too late.
