tw for mention of mental illness and panic attacks

some valuable things i’ve learnt from therapy; a hopefully helpful thread
the 5, 5 and 5. has helped me during panic attacks. name 5 things you see. name 5 things you hear. and name 5 things you feel (touch wise)
counting down from 100 can also help when in a distressed state.
sometimes your anxiety will tend to spiral into something bigger than what you began with, where you lose sight of what’s important. catch it and take a step back to re-evaluate. your emotions only want to help you but don’t let your thoughts get caught in it.
super important! saying ‘i think’ and therefore i must be, is not always true. ‘i feel like’ doesn’t tell you what is correct about the situation. you can acknowledge it, but let it go, before you start believing lies about yourself.
it’s okay to feel. our emotions let us know something is wrong and are only trying to help communicate. your feelings are valid. for whatever reason, it’s important to you and that’s what makes it okay. you can change them if they are harmful, it just takes time and practice.
start where you are, not where you want to be. think of what you CAN do and work on it in small steps. you’ll get there, i promise. find something that matters enough to make yourself uncomfortable and get used to doing it to grow confidence.
accepting reality. sometimes you can’t change an event, but you can change your response to it by acceptance first. when something bad happens out of your control, staying upset will only add to the pain. you aren’t expected to be happy about it, but do something positive.
this is a very handy technique. may not work for everyone, but it has worked for me to calm me down.
another helpful technique
not everyone may agree with this thread, but i’m just trying to convey, in the best way i can, some things that have helped me and were given out to me by professionals. stay safe and i sure hope this helps at least someone.
also my dms are always open to anyone that needs to talk about anything ♥️
