#Coronavirus updates and analysis throughout the day in this thread:

First sensational data, and worrying news from #Hungary.
Regular followers will know I was the first to spot the trend there, pointing to a HUGE spike from one of the lowest levels in Europe.
So to the facts.
Today #Hungary declared 365 new #covid19 cases.
On Sunday I reported how the country smashed its previous record daily case number...today is a full 25% up on that all-time record. This is probably the steepest curve the world has seen in #SecondWave
It's pretty irrelevant for travellers and the UK #TravelCorridor because #Hungary has banned all foreigners from visiting.
#Ukraine has also registered a new all-time daily high for new #coronavirus infections.
2985 is just 14 higher than Saturday's previous high, but I have to admit this new record surprised me. The data points to a slowdown but it's going to be a long slow grind.
Better news for #Croatia which shows quite a large slowdown for the second successive day. 311 new cases today, more than double yesterday's total, but Mon+Tue are always lower, and today is well down on 358 last Wednesday.
Worth repeating overnight news from 2 central European nations (usually) popular with visitors, both now on the "naughty list".
#Czechia had 500 #Covid19 cases, things not getting better, a slow increase.
But #Bulgaria continues to fall, MUST be added to #TravelCorridor tomorrow
Obviously a very careful eye on #Greece figures today - due around 4pm UK time.
Greece has been totally steady for new #Covid19 infections for over 2 weeks between 20-22 AD/M on my scale (14-15 on EU scale), not even close to threshold for exclusion from #TravelCorridor
Scotland's quarantine for those returning from #Greece was senseless as I wrote y'day.
It's much more likely a Brit was infected before travel to #Zante & infected their circle there.
Nicola Sturgeon should have had guts to ban groups of more than 6 or 10 holidaying together
#Portugal and tourists there will be crossing everything hoping for a statistical miracle today. They usually report earlier than Greece, but it seems likely today's figures will be the last ones before @grantshapps and his committee meet prior to #TravelCorridor update on Thurs
More quick #Covid19 updates:
#Poland 595 new cases - another decent drop week on week.
#Switzerland 370 and #Austria 327 both virtually unchanged.
Poland will stay in UK's #TravelCorridor, the others to remain excluded tomorrow.
Now watching #PMQs to see if there will be any clues to tomorrow's update on #TravelCorridor
@BorisJohnson likely to be asked about #Greece and may not be able to resist a cheeky put-down of Nicole Sturgeon if Greece is not likely to be excluded tomorrow.
No mention in PMQs... but in #Scotland's parliament Nicola Sturgeon merely says "evidence of recent cases being traced back to people returning from Greece"
Yes, but that's because Brits went there with the disease. No data, no stats, no explanation why only 2 cases in #Zante
#Denmark 111 new cases of #Covid19 today - a bit of a blip. Another bad figure tomorrow could show a problem.
Still very low levels - about half the cut off point for UK #TravelCorridor
Just 153 new cases in #Sweden today.
It's been quite a dramatic and consistent fall for the Nordic nation. They could have been added to #TravelCorridor last week by #UK, they are surely certainties tomorrow, now almost half the supposed infection "danger point"
Bad #coronavirus news just in for #Netherlands
The country had been trending downwards for new infections and hopeful of being added to #TravelCorridor next week, but not now.
734 new Dutch #Covid19 cases today, second highest daily figure since April.
** Breaking **
#Portugal announces 390 new cases of #COVID19

Last Thursday there were only 362 cases.
As expected, this shows the spread is still growing and it would very strange if Portugal was not removed from #TravelCorridor tomorrow.
Having said that, it's going to be embarrassing to for UK govt to remove #Portugal having only added them to #TravelCorridor 2 weeks ago. Also, the rate of increase has slowed. Tourists will argue main holiday areas have low infection rates, but not likely to come into equation
#Portugal is 10% above @grantshapps' "limit" for removal from #TravelCorridor.
It's the 8th successive day that #Portugal's 7-day rate of infection has risen. Difficult to make an argument for allowing tourists to return without quarantine considering #France, #Czechia #Switzerland + #Austria were all lower when removed.
* breaking news *
#Greece

Two popular beach bars on #Mykonos have been forced to close as 10 members of staff test positive for #Covid19.

Who said British exports were down?
Infections on all Greek islands were very, very low even yesterday. Britons (and other nations' tourists) coming back from Zante and Mykonos and other holiday locations, clearly will have infected locals there. The islands' numbers will inevitably rise.
#Greece #Covid19
But it is illogical to "punish" #Greece for imported infections is the overall level remains low.

For consistency Scotland should block any big group from holidaying together anywhere, even in Scotland, or issue strict rules to tour operators about restrictions on site.
** BREAKING ***
#Greece figures.

And ironically a MASSIVE drop today in new cases (do you hear me Nicola Sturgeon?)
Last Weds 293. Today 233 new cases of #Covid19
#Greece is around 2/3 of the level needed to trigger being thrown out of the #TravelCorridor, i.e. nowhere near.

Today's data confirm despite the fact Brits are exporting the virus, there's no scientific evidence to try to ban travel to any Greek islands.
#Coronavirus #Covid19
#Italy more good news
They've actually registered a DROP in the 7-day infection rate.
Today 1326 new #Covid19 cases, compared to 1366 on this day last week.
Italy nowhere near #Quarantine restrictions. The country has done very well to reverse the trend
#coronavirus
#Cyprus remains incredibly low levels of infection.
Just 4 new #Covid19 cases today. That makes only 14 new cases in the last 5 days
#UK - wow, bad news
1,508 new #Covid19 cases, not far off 50% up on a week ago.
UK infection rate is growing quickly now.
Cases are up 29% in the past week. At this rate of growth, UK would have to put itself on the quarantine list in a fortnight!
#Coronavirus
Expecting #Spain, #Turkey. #France data soon.
The countries I'm monitoring with a chance of changing #TravelCorridor status have now reported
My predictions (based on data/testing, not on whim of SNP) are:
#Portugal quarantine
#Bulgaria #Sweden added to travel corridor
#Covid19
#Spain #coronavirus crisis - up and up it goes.
8,581 more new cases of #Covid today
That's up from 7296 a week ago (+18%)
42 new deaths in #Spain today due to #Covid19

At last #Madrid has shown a drop in infection rates. It's still worst affected area in the country, but others growing including #LaRioja and #PaisVasco, both of which could overtake Madrid before the weekend.
#Coronavirus
#France update just in.
7,017 new cases registered. Last Weds 5,429.
That's a 29% increase in #Covid infections.
#coronavirus
#France's 7-day infection rate has increased every single day bar one for the last 49 days. at that time its #covid19 infection rate was around 8.5 AD/M. This evening it's now at 86.3.
Also, another 26 #covid19 related deaths reported by #France today
Many other countries have #Covid19 problems in the #SecondWave too.
For instance #Maldives and #Lebanon are both at near record levels. Lebanon indeed looks like it may register an all time high daily figure again in the next couple of days.
#coronavirus
In #Turkey 1,596 #Covid19 cases,
Last Weds there were 1,313 cases, so another increase, but
Turkey in no danger of being removed from UK #TravelCorridor tomorrow.
Turkey is well below UK infection rates now, but impossible to predict what may happen in next 7 days.
Just adding a line about #Ireland - 89 new #Covid19 cases today.
After yesterday's blip, this is down on last week, so the last 2 days combined show only a modest increase in infection rate.
