Should I do a thread on some of the most amazing mistakes/misrepresentations/ideas in airline social media marketing? Trust me. This is going to be extremely funny.
Let’s start. Feel free to add your observations.
This one time when a creative writer suggested this copy, denoting that passengers had fun inflight.
“Have a blast in the air.”

Domestic flight sale banners by with a quadjet (4 engines) in the background with livery of an airline that doesn’t have a quadjet.
What’s with everyone obsessing over double deckers? We don’t have A380s in this country.
But a fake a380 image in a press article of an airline that flies Boeing not Airbus is my most favourite mistake.

A certain company doing a flight sale and instead of using a Boeing narrow body which they fly, shows a airbus narrow body. How on Earth is this even possible. How do they have a creative of an aircraft they don’t have!
I have seen this With airlines world over. Pictures of crew posing with celebs inflight standing and blocking emergency exits. That doesn’t speak safety or a carefully thought through photo op.
Another favourite: illustration based take offs angling at 45 degrees. It’s a very small thing but an anal marketer will avoid misrepresentation.
You are not ready for this. Thanks to limited imagery available on shutterstock, a lot of travel related communication shows pictures of places and countries airlines don’t fly to. Karen, you don’t fly to Australia so can you show Sri Lanka only plz ? Thanks.
This is my most favourite mistake. On Diwali. When to wish you a Happy Diwali one airplane will fly across the sky amidst firecrackers. That’s. Just. All kinds of scary and wrong.
Another. Suddenly the moving engines of an aircraft will animate into a revolving firecracker.

That is all kinds of nightmare and misrepresentation and honestly like no.

When doing creative animations, showcasing the plane upside down just because it has to move in a circle. How would you like it if McDonald’s would advertise you a literally upside down burger??
Exactly!
Exactly!
The point I’m trying to make is... an aircraft isn’t a prop, it’s a product you are selling. Representation of ones own product matters in the visual world.
A quick exercise: Note down names of airlines you take seriously and the ones you joke about. You’ll have the answer.

That my friend right there is a lesson in branding.
Did I mention how a window view will try to show contrails but instead looks like smoke coming from engine? Ya. No.
