Economic hardship doesn't negate agency. Ignorance or propaganda are no excuses for moral failure, as we have a moral duty - to ourselves and others - to think critically.

The view that poor people can't choose not to join the military is

1. False: most do just that.

2. Classist: it implies that moral agency is bestowed by money.
Being lied to by a recruiter is the weakest excuse in a world where anyone can Google "US war crimes"
The argument holds the same if there is a draft. A draft is not mind control any more than poverty is - it's a law that you can disobey.
If your line of argument could also apply to excuse Wermacht soldiers, please don't make it in this thread.
