1.Built during the Golden era of Solanki dedicated to Sun God in Modhera,once a mighty capital of Solankis.

2.Constructed in 11 CE in Maru-Gurjara style of Architecture is a finest example of rich craftmenship beautifully carved on Sandstone.
3.The temple is constructed in such an excellent manner that during every equinox, the first sun rays would fall on a diamond placed on the Sun God's forehead & the entire temple would illuminated in a Golden Glow.

4. It is said that the main Vigraha of Sun God was made up of
Pure Gold. Sadly it was looted by Mahmud Ghazni.

5.During Summer solstice day, the sun shine directly above the temple at noon casting no shadow.

6. Two pillar in front of the Garbhagriha would stay illuminated throughout the day, irrespective of the position of the Sun.
7.The Savamandapa has 52 carved pillar represents the 52 week of the year.
8.The temple has been ravaged by plunderers & earthquakes, yet it remains an outstanding monument of architectural genius.
9.Presently it is undertaken by ASI.
In 2014 added in UNESCO World Heritage site.
