.6 President @EmmanuelMacron’s visit to RHUH, and the announcement of a €7 million to support the hospital, are very significant: Both acknowledge the important role of the health sector especially during these difficult times, and also underscore the following points:
.6 The importance of RHUH in providing healthcare access to the vulnerable population in 🇱🇧, mostly Lebanese, and refugees as well. Despite its Covid responsibilities, RHUH remains the referral hospital for the expanding underprivileged population in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.
.6 The leading role RHUH is playing in the response against #Covid19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Six months later and RHUH, despite scarce resources, remains the largest hospital receiving #Covid19 patients. Its staff continue to perform admirably against all odds.
.6 The collaboration that RHUH has with multiple international organizations. Our partnership with @ICRC_lb, supported by @AFD_en, has become a model for local-international cooperation, balancing humanitarian and development needs, to provide a sustainable access to care.
.6 The RHUH turnaround. Five years ago, RHUH was going from one crisis to another, becoming a symbol of failing governmental institutions. Now, after years of administrative rehabilitation, it stands at the forefront of healthcare delivery, at a time of great need, a pandemic.
.6 Several factors played a role, but two in particular stand out. First, the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of the hospital staff. Second, the unwavering support from the Lebanese people, whether moral or financial, without which RHUH could not continue. Grand Merci..
