a thread on why txt culture appropriation with the dreamcatcher —
first, let’s talk about the history behind it. dreamcatchers are significant to the ojibwe people, today a LOT of them live in severe poverty, but despite that they are still resilient and strong people
what does this have to do with the dreamcatcher? for a long time, ojibwe and a lot of our native culture wasn’t even allowed to be practiced. this is cultural genocide. we almost lost our roots
imagine how it feels knowing that non natives can just suddenly wear feathers in their hair, swing around dreamcatchers all for the aesthetics and imitating our culture for their own goods. this is EXTREMELY harmful as i believe this wasn’t even bought from a native.
our culture is being stolen and violently taken away from us but now it’s some trend? something a company makes and profits off us when like i said, many are living in severe poverty.
you can choose to be ignorant. you can choose to look away from this but know you are apart of the problem. you are allowing exploitation of ojibwe culture and other indigenous culture that many of us feel so lost in. be the change. educate @BigHitEnt and do not silence us.
i’m so sorry about my spelling mistakes. i’m shaking and i’m so upset. this hurts so much
