I want to talk about Vernacular Schools, from a non-racial point of view. Just education.

I went to SJK(C), and my son will enter SJK(C) next year. I consider myself a Malaysian. Not First or Second, but only that, a Malaysian. My son, half a Malaysian.
I send my son to SJK(C) for one reason only, because I want him to learn the Chinese language. Not because of his skin colour (or mine), or the colour of his classmates.

Will I send him to a SJK(C) with 0.01% Chinese Malaysian student?, hell Yes!
You see, Chinese is a complex language to speak, read and write. My kid doesn't speak Chinese at all at home. (We speak Thai, because that's what his parents speak to each other)

For me, to learn Chinese is to force him to use it as a medium in every subject.

SJK(C) does that.
Like myself, after SJK(C), I'll make sure he enters SMK. There, he'll learn his BM/English. Why? to me, it is much easier to pick up BM/Eng in secondary school, but not vice versa.

I have never scored anything less than an A+ for BM/Eng. I was top of my class for BM (high sch)
I have always loved BM. My mom is fluent in BM, doesn't speak Mandarin.

Again this has nothing to do with demographics. I hated SJK(C), if it were up to me back then, I'd die to go to a Eng/BM speaking SK.

Chinese was, torturous.
Because of what my parents did, I had no problems working/studying in the UK & US. My first job was a multinational US company.

I survived working in China independently, pitching, reporting, closing sales with PetroChina, SinoPEC in Chinese for 4+ years.
Everytime I meet another Msian expat I'd start speaking BM first. I looked forward to that.

Now, I teach in BM when in public schools. >50% of my students speak BM in school.

Today I am just, a Multilingual Malaysian.
After all those years abroad. I convinced my family to settle down, at home.

In Malaysia. In Sarawak, where I can return what was invested in me, by Malaysia - to Malaysia.

So yeah, in 2 weeks...

Selamat Hari Malaysia! 🇲🇾
Now, the sensitive part.

Do I need him to learn "perpaduan" at school?

No. Unity doesn't need to be taught, because he'll know that there's only one human race. We teach him how bad Racism is at home

He goes to school to learn about Science, Language, History, Arts. Not Unity.
There is no need to talk/teach people about Unity, if you don't practice racism at home.

Try that today, tell your children .. Everyone is a human, just like you.

That's all. Easy right?

No need to menang Ketua Armada or whatever.
