BREAKING—these are the moments pandemonium breaks out in Richmond, outside the city jail where a protest was staged. After an advance by police, protestors took to the street. A bicyclist was almost hit by an unmarked police cruiser, then tackled to the ground. @8NEWS
The bicyclist who was taken-down by an officer was blocking a tow truck that arrived on scene. Then, see left, an officer runs toward that bicyclist, prompting him to jump on his bike and pedal away into oncoming traffic. @8NEWS
Afterward, you can see several people detained by police. I’m told by one tow truck truck driver who arrived, that he received a call from Richmond police, asking him to be on standby if the protest got out-of-hand, and cars had to be towed away. The latest on @8NEWS at 11.
Important to note: Demonstrators were protesting here about a recent rise of COVID-19 cases within the city jail and conditions within, as advertised in Twitter. @8NEWS
BREAKING—Richmond police say 11 people were arrested tonight after a clash outside the city jail after a protest. RPD says the advance to send protestors back was after some “had moved from the public sidewalk onto Justice Center grounds — causing a security concern.“ @8NEWS
Police say the bicyclist that blocked the tow truck was charged with ‘obstruction of justice without force, ‘and the 10 others charged face ‘obstruction of justice with force’ after attempting to interfere with the bicyclist’s arrest and others. @8NEWS
