THREAD: The lionization and even seeming 'canonization' of black criminals shot by police has left me wondering if this could be part of a larger, much more disturbing trend (as if what's happening isn't disturbing enough). (1)
Consider: Jacob Blake had a warrant for felony sexual assault. He was obviously aware of this when he was being arrested for violating a restraining order. He was going to jail, and probably prison. He surely knows he can't win against the police, yet still chose to fight. (2)
We can never know this definitively, but what if Jacob Blake knew exactly what he was doing? Sure, he wouldn't have known he was going to get shot 7 times and be paralyzed, but knowing most people survive bullet wounds these days, what if he wanted to get shot? Bear with me. (3)
Imagine you're a common gangland criminal about to go to jail for something pretty bad. Overnight, for the price of a bullet wound (you hope), you go from scumbag to martyr. Overnight, people are gathering in the streets to support you. Literally from zero to hero, overnight. (4)
People are chanting, "Say his name!" People are etching your image onto placards & buildings like you're Gandhi or Mother Theresa all of a sudden. Blake is in custody, but people were demanding his handcuffs be removed. People want him free when he recovers. (5)
This could never happen in any other political era, but at this point, if you're black and get shot by police you're almost guaranteed protests to support you. Hell, if you were killed literally in the process of conducting a mass shooting, some would probably still march. (6)
I'm not saying police are always justified, obviously, and we may find there was still some misconduct in the Jacob Blake shooting. But BLM and the left are making martyrs out of scumbags. Rayshard Brooks fought & tried to shoot a taser at police & became a martyr. (7)
These people may be criminals, but they aren't stupid. What if Dijon Kizzee made a similar calculation? Will others in the future? If you're suicidal, why not be a legend? If you aren't, your chances of recovering from a bullet wound are pretty good. (8)
If I'm right, we may see an uptick of violence between black criminals and police (of all colors). And since any officer with a lick of sense is probably super gun-shy even in cases of obvious self-defense, officers will be more at risk than ever. I hope I'm wrong. (9)
