A thread from someone that comes from 2 indigenous backgrounds, one being Cherokee, the pictures you ‘referenced’ are Cherokee woman. I don’t know about other cultures but MY culture was not appropriated here. The prints they are wearing are nowhere near what my people wear https://twitter.com/purrnoises/status/1300818580188155906
This leads me to believe you’re speaking over us. I’m thankful that you’re worried and you stand up for it, but it seems like you just looked up native woman & put the first 2 pictures.
My father is Cherokee & my mother is from a Tamaulipeco tribe in Northern Mexico. I don’t know as much from my mothers side so I won’t speak over people that identify and know more of it.
What I can say though, as I am also a Mexican citizen. Is that the prints & fabrics they are wearing (
&
) are what is sold to tourist. We proudly & happily sell that and we love seeing people wear it.

And honestly I don’t see how those feathers are ca. But if it is invalidating YOUR culture / tribe please educate me. When I go to the Cherokee establishment with my dad, we give little feathers like that to the people that go to the museum. We view it as a souvenir for them
Okay the headbands.... that IS NOT NATIVE. It’s so stereotypical for people to associate it with indigenous people when it’s actually embarrassing that people compare our beautiful head pieces & hair wear with that.
What WOULD be ca is if they wore a headdress, bc that is presented to someone with Immense honor and bravery. A headdress is a restricted item. Restricted items are like say a diploma or military badge. If you wear a headdress when you didn’t meet the criteria it’s ca
