Well, today after 8 years of putting literal blood, sweat, and tears into the @NationalTheatre, I am unemployed. Along with 400 other casual workers, a job which was an absolute life-saver and a way to make money whilst trying to carve out a career in the arts is gone... (1/6)
...I& #39;ve not spoken about this much since we found out because I& #39;ve been so disappointed in the NT for how they& #39;ve handled it as well as incredibly upset about losing something that was always far more than a job. The NT (and particularly the FOH teams)... (2/6)
...have been a incredible community to be part of and something I tried really hard to contribute to during my time there. As well as helping to (I hope!) improve the Events department, I was a rep for the Women& #39;s Network (helping to run talks and events for all staff), ...(3/6)
... and set up and ran @FOHtheatre to provide FOH staff an opportunity to create, develop, and produce theatre work. Most of this I did this for free. Despite this there wasn& #39;t the chance to defend my employment and no potential for returning when things improve... (4/6)
...which is why I am so upset. I truly believe the NT has made a mistake getting rid of such a loyal, hard-working, knowledgeable, diverse, and talented section of their work force, which they will struggle to replicate when things get back to normal. (5/6)
... Anyway, to end on a more positive note: I met some bloody amazing people at the NT who will be life-long friends & so many people I hope to to collaborate with in the future (these people are the future of British theatre).Sending my love to all of them today. #rantover (6/6)
