This might seem vague — but just don’t take what famous historians say as political analysis seriously. They have a truly amazingly bad record predicting anything despite supposedly knowing something about human life or whatever

Wilentz was an amazing stooge for the Clintons because of his weird starfucker complex and was convinced Obama could not win in 2008 and yet here we are, and we’re still listening to him for some reason

My take on US historians doing political commentary is a lot like a negative review of the 2014 film Whiplash:

It doesn’t just get jazz wrong, it gets life on Earth wrong.

How can smart people who spend so much time studying the human condition be so consistently wrong?
