About to qualify? I’ve never done a thread before, but here is my thread for anyone about to qualify as a Paramedic, from someone who has made plenty of mistakes and will no doubt have more to come! 1/
/ Talk to your crew mate at the beginning of the shift, tell them you’re new, ask for their help, and ask them to respectfully challenge any decisions they feel are unsafe. You’re a team. You save patients, they will save you!
/ When things go wrong, (and they will), own it, be humble, participate in any learning processes and walk away knowing you’re a better clinician for it.
/ Don’t get caught up in the politics, it will destroy your soul and will make you forget the reason you joined the job in the first place.
/ When you’re frustrated at navigating OOHs/ Crisis Teams/ Community services never forget there is a patient at the centre of it all.
/ Your first few weeks will be full of firsts, don’t over do it, don’t saturate yourself with overtime shifts, make time for yourself.
/ Never, ever, ever, ever forget your ABCs. They will save you and your patient.
/ Don’t over complicate patients, don’t over diagnose keep it simple, nothing wrong with your impression being unwell ?cause.
/ Your gut is generally never wrong.
/ Most importantly, know how to make a decent cup of tea.
