to anyone who thinks “but the military is a great way to get free education and to get out of poverty”: you should NOT have to join the military, where your life could be put on the line, to receive an education or escape poverty.

and the point isn’t that these kids are being recruited right now. the issue is that the US military is glorified and pushed onto poor kids as their only option to receive an education and/or living so that by the time they *can* enlist, they feel like it’s their only choice.
