This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how to deal with people learning/working remotely. This is not prepping kids for anything, it's just setting arbitrary limitations on their comfort. https://twitter.com/ILRaiseYourHand/status/1300568359675756544
In real life if you work from home you rarely even wear actual pants. If you're working in person you sometimes eat during meetings.
Making this totally normal stuff a big deal is just putting more unnecessary pressure on these kids. I hated feeling anxious about needing to pee or wanting to get some water during class as a kid, imagine having to deal with that in your own home.
The first teacher I had who told us to just go to the bathroom if we needed to and that it was fine to eat/drink in class because he trusted us to clean up after ourselves taught me a lot more about "real life" than the teachers who'd rather see kids well-behaved and miserable
Also working from home is a huge adjustment even for adults. I prefer it but most people I've known don't like to do it full time. You're asking kids with still-developing brains to do something that's already new/frustrating and purposely trying to make it more unpleasant!
This isn't even taking into account that this is an unprecedented shitty time, especially for kids. Give them a fucking break! If they want to mute themselves and eat a bag of chips during class who cares!
Framing arbitrary restrictions on regular stuff like peeing or eating or sitting comfortably as "prepping you for the real world" is just an excuse used by lazy adults who don't want to put in the effort to work with kids on life skills in a mutually respectful way
Sorry I am so mad lol
