Alright! Now that’s out of the way- Phew where to even start there’s so much I want to say it’s hard to figure out a starting point.

I suppose I’ll start with what I consider the start of Eren and Historias bond. This is going to be a long thread
This conversation. This simple conversation added so much appeal to their relationship not only just that added depth to Their characters that we’ve never seen before. Lets talk further about what makes this scene so great.
This is the first genuine and heartfelt interaction Eren and Historia have. Not even just for them but Historia hadn’t open up to anyone after Ymir left. She was closed off and isolated herself thinking the only person understood her was gone. Then.. Eren said this to her.
This is important especially considering “I understand” is bolded. Here it’s clear that Ymir was the only person to understand her that she feels lost without her that if she’s gone then no one could possibly understand her. Eren changes that. He surprises her.
By saying he understands how she feels she’s surprised as she built this wall after Ymir left that no one could break down, but Eren without even knowing started to break through that wall she isolated herself in. There’s not many down to earth convos in AoT so it’s special.
Lets talk about the beginning of the conversation which coincidently is talking about Ymir. First Eren apologizes feeling as if he failed as a Titan shifter not able to go and help rescue Ymir and blaming himself for the actions being taken in the upraising arc.
Historia responds with asking why Eren apologizing to her. Dodging the question Eren asks if she still wants to rescue Ymir. Historia says there’s no reason too because Ymir chose her own path.. and to Historia it was a path without her.. This weighing heavily on her.
She then goes to mention her birth and the new role she feels uneasy about accepting and instead of pushing Historia like the others Eren simply asks. “What do YOU want to do?” Something she hasn’t been asked since the arc started.
She’s just been pushed by the people around her since the revelation of her birth was revealed. Instead of furthering saying Historia has to accept this role Eren is the first one to ask Historia what she wants. And Historia responds with.. “I don’t know..”
She doesn’t know because the one person who helped her understand who she is is gone.. Without Ymir she doesn’t even know who she is anymore and Ymir saw the real her the her that she thinks no one else could possibly understand. Until she was proven wrong by Eren.
After Eren tells her he understands he asks if she’s worried about Armin. And to to his surprise she says “I don’t see why.” The reason why she says this is because Krista Lenz would be the one to worry. But Historia Reiss? She’s nothing like the good girl Krista.
This page is extremely important to understand Historias character. She goes on to explain that Historia is empty that no one loved her no it’s more than that no one wanted her to be born. To be this terrible everyone around her must be disappointed right?
Well.. No. After Historia vents about how she thinks she’s terrible and unwanted that everyone would prefer Krista and that she was a disappointment Eren says-
“That’s not true.”
It’s not true because Eren doesn’t feel that way actually he’s excited to get to know her.

The exact opposite of being disappointed. He goes on to explain how he doesn’t know about the others, but he never liked Krista. Historia is confused as she never heard someone say that before. How could it be possible for Eren not to like the good girl Krista?
Because he saw through the facade she had. That the “good girl Krista” was unnatural and a persona. Historia feels disappointed.. She thinks Eren didn’t like her before and doesn’t like her now. Who could? She was empty. She wasn’t normal. No one could possibly like her-
“But.. There’s something I like about you now.”
Historia after her disappointment, after thinking that she was unlikable Eren surprises her again. Her chin lifts up she she seems a bit happy to hear those words. Eren explains further that she is completely normal. That she’s a normal girl who’s absurdly honest.
The first person in her life that says they like her for her. Emptiness, selfishness, bluntness, even with these traits Eren goes on to tell her that it isn’t true. That she is likable. That she’s normal. That it’s okay to be who she is instead of a false persona.
Eren during this conversation is extremely awkward you could tell by his body language that he doesn’t really know what to say to Historia. But as we get further into the conversation he perks up becomes, more confident, more excited to get to know her. The real her.
It’s also important to note that this is one of the rare occasions that we see fifteen year old Eren calm down and just connect with someone. We haven’t seen this type of interaction before so it’s rather special for the both of them.
This conversation will be important later, but for now here’s Eren encouraging Historia to punch Levi. He smiled at her cheering her on will always be a favorite moment of mine. He looks genuinely happy and excited for Historia.
Alright after that fluff filler lets talk about something that’s a bit heavier. More depression specifically Erens lowest in the entire series. The cave scene.

Eren is at his absolute lowest he believe that him holding the power of the titans is completely useless that he’s useless. That he shouldn’t be born. Historia knows this feeling all too well. When she looks at him she’s reminded of herself at her lowest..
When she sees Eren like this.. She’s reminded of their conversation from earlier and how happy he made her by just saying simple words. She always wanted to be accepted and loved and then the one person after Ymir left brought her joy is now hurt and in need of help.
She’s reminded of Ymir and her promise to her to live a life she’s proud of. Then she thinks about accepting the role her father gave her a role that will give her everything she wanted... Her fathers love the protection of humanity.. acceptance.. It’s everything she wants right?
No.. She knows this isn’t what she would want. She knows this would break the promise to Ymir. She won’t let her father kill her and Eren!
Eren tells Historia his plan of the rumbling for seemingly no reason. He has the wine plan in motion for Zekes protection and even offers her to run away or hide. She tells him there’s no need. I believe these panels are parallels. Specifically with the dialogue.
Seeing her reaction to the plan of the rumbling Eren tries to further explain himself but Historia says that she had to stop Eren that she couldn’t live with herself. Eren offers to wipe her memories if the grief is too much to bare she says she can’t but he then says she can.
That she can do this because of who she is. The real her. The one what would never let someone kill her for their own gain the her that would live a life for herself to be proud of. The girl who saved him that day. The worst girl in the world.
We know this is what he means as there’s already an established relationship of them understanding one another when no one else does. Their mutual understanding of one another’s feelings is admirable.
