Today's walk. The two contrasting churches of Heysham
Heysham is a pretty village with two amazing churches
St Peters first...
The compact church has a graveyard that gently slopes down to the sea
You can cut through the graveyard to visit the ruins of St Patricks Chapel
It sits on the brow of the barrow over looking Morecambe Bay. It has been there for nearly ten centuries and is considered one of the oldest places of Christian worship in Northern Europe
The most remarkable feature of the chapel are the coffins carved into the stone of the barrow next to it
I often wonder when i visit what the lives of the people buried here must have been like.
The pace of life here is even less hectic than Lancaster and so i return to my car recharged for the day. Another photo walk soon...
