TIARA THREAD

With a little advance I launch the thread dedicated to the less known tiaras / headbands.

For some of these tiaras I found very little information so feel free to contribute if you know something that I don't know!
Day 1 : This week will be devoted to the jeweler Bolin highly prized by Tsarist Russia. So today no photos but a little history.
The Roempler house is found in Russia since 1790 very popular with the imperial court. One of the boss's daughters marries a certain Bolin.
Son of a Swedish sea captain who died in a storm. Ruined, the family had great difficulties. One of the sons, Carl Edvard went to St-Petersburg to look for work. After his marriage he becomes director.
He didn't know anything about jewelry but had a good sense of direction and business. After the deaths of the partners, the house will become Bolin and will be the official supplier to the court (will then be a little competed with by Fabergé and the other houses around 1890).
The Russian revolution will greatly slow down the business. Bolin had Swedish nationalityHis descendants too. Provident, they opened a branch in Germany. With the war they will transfer her to Sweden.
They had since added jewelry auctioning to their skill set.
It is one of the few houses that still belongs to the family of the creator.

They made Princess Victoria of Sweden engagement ring !
Day 2 : Ruby Lotus tiara by Bolin. (I found a lot of infos about this tiara on the blog The Royal Watcher).
1874. Gold, ruby, diamonds. Parure : necklace, earrings, three brooches, a ring, a stomacher (now missing).
Created for the wedding of Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia, only daughter of the Tsar Alexander II of Russia. She married Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Saxe Coburg Gotha, one of the son of Queen Victoria.
I don't find a pic where she has the tiara but in the photo she wears the necklace (coronation of her nephew Nicolas II). She died in 1920 and the parure passed to her daughter, Princess Alexandra (right), who had married a Prince of Hohenlohe Langenburg.
I don't find a pic with the parure. BUT her daughter in law is Princess Margarita of Greece, the sister of Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. She wears it frequently (I think it's her on the right behind Prince Charles and wearring the tiara and glasses) until her death in 1981.
Years later the parure was apparently selled and in 2006 there is another auction and earrings, rings are sold by Christie's.
Day 4 : the Bolin Milford Haven Tiara. 1890. Gold, ruby, diamonds. Kokoshnik form. Commissioned by Grand Duke Michael (grandson of tsar Nicholas I) for his wife. Give it to their daughter for her wedding to the marquis of Milford Haven .
Can be set in differents brooch. Still in the family.

The Grand Duke commissioned the same tiara but with sapphire for his second daughter.
Day 5 : Empress Alexandra Feodorovna Drop Pearl Kokoshnik by Bolin. 1840. Diamonds and pearls. There is a replica (right).
This tiara has a fascinating story.
The family's property was confiscated by the Bolsheviks. It was first sold in 1927.
Purchased by Gladys Deacon, the second wife of Charles Spencer-Churchill, 9th Duke of Marlborough. Another auction a year after Gladys' death in 1977. Bought by Madame Marcos, wife of Ferdinand Marcos, tenth president of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986.
After the fall of the regime, she and her husband were accused of embezzling billions of dollars. And some of her property was confiscated, including this tiara, now kept in a bank by the government.
Day 3 (I forgot) : @ChristinFairy 😉Empress Alexandra Feodorovna Diadem of Ancient Pearls by Bolin.1900's. Diamonds, pearls (older than the tiara, from the diamonds fund). Confiscated by the Bolsheviks and lost since.
Day 6 : Alexandra Feodorovna’s emerald tiara (The Columbian Tiara) by Bolin. Designed by Sophia Schwan. 1900. Diamonds, emeralds (23 cararts). There was a matching necklace too.
Confiscated by the Bolsheviks we don' know where it is.
Day 7 : Now it's gonna be romanov/russian tiara era !

Turquoise and Diamond Kokoshnik. Maybe by Fabergé. Confiscated by the bolcheviks and lost since.

A replica has been made for Queen Olga of Greece (born princess of Russia) and the grandmother of Prince Philip. (pic from RW).
Day 8 : Russian sapphire wave tiara. Sapphire, diamonds (the name of the tiara come from the shape of the diamonds settings, like waves);
Unlnow creator.
Belonged toMarie Feodorovna, mother of the last tzar.
Confiscated by the bolcheviks ans lost since.
