In honor of September being “National Suicide Awareness Month”, I have decided to compose a daily thread to help shed light on suicide prevention. Please feel free to respond or have a discussion with me about anything!

Day 1: According to the CDC, there is one death by suicide in the United States taking place every 12 minutes. 12 minutes. Can you think of everyone you love the most in 12 minutes? Day 3: Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for those who are between 15 - 24 years old. I’m pretty sure that’s the majority of the people on my timeline. Day 4: Male deaths represent 79% of all U.S. suicides. Day 5: 1 in 100,000 children die by suicide every year. If anyone has any younger siblings/cousins, please make sure you’re checking in on them! Day 6: Suicide rates wishing the Black/African American community is at the highest its ever been. YOUR BLACK FRIENDS NEED YOUR SUPPORT MORE THAN EVER
Day 7: LGBTQ+ children are 3x as likely as straight kids to commit suicide. PLEEEASEEEE if you know someone in this community, let them know they are loved no matter WHAT.
Day 8: In a recent survey, almost 11% of college students reported they have had thoughts of suicide within the past 12 months. Day 11: This one is personal to me, but on average, almost 30% of college students suffer from depression. Day 13: Domestic violence victims are at a higher risk for suicide than other groups. Day 14: This week I wanted to focus more on depression since it is a common factor among those who commit suicide ... Almost one in every fifteen American adults suffers from depression.
