Now that Episode 1 is out, we want to tell you a little about what to expect from our brand-new #podcast. We'll be releasing a new episode every 3 weeks, on Tuesdays. Each episode will be between 30 and 60 minutes. This season, we're all about 19th-c. American consuls. (1/n)
In each episode, we'll tell the story of a consul somewhere in the world. But we'll also connect that consul's experience to bigger events and themes in the history of the United States and the world. (e.g., for Ep 1, Marmaduke Burrough helps us talk about immigration.) (2/n)
We'll talk to scholars who know about the subjects we're investigating, usually more than one scholar per episode. We hope to set many scholars' work in conversation with each other in an approachable and enjoyable way. (3/n)
(If you've done research on a consul that you think has an interesting story, we'd love to hear from you and talk about doing an episode! Reach out at [email protected].) (4/n)
We'll also include readings from the consul's own words, and other sources that can help us understand the consul and his world. Letters, newspapers, court proceedings, even the US Constitution will get a mention! This helps us cite our sources and add some 19th c. flair. (5/n)
In each episode, you'll hear amazing music written for the episode, composed and performed by @accpercussion. You could also hear your own voice, if you want to do some of those primary source readings! (6/n)
You'll also find a wealth of information in our show notes. For each episode, you'll find a transcript (yay #universaldesign!), bios of our scholars, visuals, and further readings if we've piqued your interest. You can find the show notes at https://consolationprize.rrchnm.org/blog/  (7/n)
