So I've seen several tweets implying that because some of us maintained that ppl who are Covid 19 positive still have a right to vote then we should be happy with the ‘measures' put in place for Thursday and why are we still ‘complaining'...

The fact of the matter is that the arrangements that have been put in place completely ignore the reality of the virus and how easily it is transmitted and they also ignore the reality of the voting culture in Jamaica...

The gov was aware of Covid in Ja from March,it's unacceptable that two days before election the only arrangements that they have come up with is that Covid 19+ ppl will come out and vote just a little later than everyone else...an election that was called approx 9 months early

What I believe should have happened was that since we all knew about Covid 19 and that we would be having a Covid 19 election, legislation should have been passed to allow ppl who have been confirmed positive to vote by post.We had the time to pass legislation to facilitate this

This is not the only alternative either, in Trinidad, special polling stations were set up to allow ppl in quarantine to vote. These arrangements were announced approximately one month before the election date

In India the law was changed to extend the use of postal ballot to those over 65 and those who are Covid 19 positive

In Croatia they allowed for ppl who are Covid 19 positive to vote by proxy (not my favourite method but still better than the madness we are going to be doing)

There are other possible alternatives as well that are way better than these “arrangements" that have been put in place and we had the luxury of time to put proper measures in place. It is clear that when elections were called no one gave this any proper consideration...

I am also very concerned about our election day workers, will all of them be getting adequate ppe? Will they be trained as to how to deal with Covid+ ppl? How will these ballots be treated differently from the other ballots?
