At 54.6% ownership, the majority of managers own Trent and know why he’s such a good asset. So in this thread I’m going to be focusing more on Robertson and why you should have him in your GW1 team alongside Trent, not as a more differential alternative

1. Incredible value for money
Last season no player worth £8m or less in any position outscored Trent and Robertson for FPL points:
TAA - 210 points
Robertson - 181 points
It was the same in 18/19, where Robertson picked up 213 points, 28 more than TAA

For me, having these 2 in your team all season guarantee’s you around 400 points:
2018/19 TAA + Robbo - 398
2019/20 TAA + Robbo - 391
Around 400 points for £14.5m is incredible value.

2. Alternative options
Another way of looking at Robertson is by asking the question, who else could you for the same price in other positions?
Robertson + £4.5 bench MID/FWD = £11.5m
£7.5m MID/FWD + £4.0 bench DEF = £11.5m

So instead of Robertson you could get a £7.5m midfielder or forward.
This seasons £7.5m MID’s and FWD’s are:
Bergweijn, B.Silva, Greenwood & Abraham
Although Greenwood is a great option, Robertson will still almost certainly outscore all these players next year.

So if Greenwood is getting talked about as unbelievable value for money, why isn’t Robertson?
I think he’s going seriously under the radar
Why not have both?

3. Post lockdown
Since GW30 Robertson has upped his game even more and has looked an even better FPL asset. He seems to be getting into better positions, taking more set pieces and most importantly, getting more points
And his post lockdown stats back this up...

TAA vs Robertson (GW30-GW38):
Goals: 2 - 1
Shots ITB: 1 - 3
Assists: 1 - 5
Attempted assists: 11 - 17
Touches in opp box: 7 - 18
FPL points: 44 - 44
When Robertson is playing like this it’ll be like having 2 TAA’s in your team

...And I fully expect him to start the season like this:
1) He was Liverpool’s biggest attacking threat against Arsenal in the Community Shield
2) Will be motivated to help Liverpool retain the title

4. Why are people hesitant?
There’s 2 main reasons why people are hesitant to double up on Liverpool from GW1:
1) They doubled up on Liverpool at the start of last season and it didn’t pay off
2) Their fixtures aren’t the best
There’s 2 main reasons why people are hesitant to double up on Liverpool from GW1:

1) First of all last season was very unfortunate. Alisson’s injury in the opening game of the season changed everything.
This season Liverpool’s back 5 of Alisson, TAA, VVD, Gomez & Robertson are expected to start the season.
This season Liverpool’s back 5 of Alisson, TAA, VVD, Gomez & Robertson are expected to start the season.
Liverpool’s record when starting with this back 5 in the PL last season, before they won the league:
10 games
8 clean sheets
Liverpool will be starting the season with that back 5, in games they need to win which should mean clean sheets galore

Liverpool will be starting the season with that back 5, in games they need to win which should mean clean sheets galore

2) When you break Liverpool’s fixtures down further they all of a sudden don’t look as difficult defensively:
Leeds (H) - First game of the season against a newly promoted side at Anfield. If the usual back 4 + GK all start, then I can’t see anything but a clean sheet.

5. Ownership?
A player like Robertson, with his points returns over the last few years and his FPL potential is currently a differential. Unbelievable. Owned by only 12.4%, this double-up could be the perfect way to get you up the ranks.

Something else to consider is that Liverpool’s usual back 5 currently have a combined ownership of 106.8%. This means that if Liverpool keep a clean sheet and you only own 1, it’ll take you down the ranks.
For me this alone is enough to make me want to double up as we all play FPL for fun, right? And what’s fun about wanting one of your players team to concede.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this. I hope it has informative and given you something to consider
