FPL tips for Beginners (a thread)

Background - I finished 15k in my first season and have had eight top 10k finishes in the last ten seasons since.

Hopefully new players, or those taking it seriously for the first time, can get some basics right with these tips.

Team Selection

Pick mainly players who are nailed on to start

Don't pick too many crazy punts

Don't put too much value on the bench

Look at fixtures e.g. the next 4-6 GWs

Consider rotating cheap defenders based on fixtures

Don't spend big on keepers

Pay attention to who you might captain each week - this is where the points are, so worth spending some cash and transfers here

Think about players you might want soon, and how you could get to them from your current squad

Try to improve your team incrementally with each transfer

Don't take too many hits and burn valuable points

Try to watch football!

Use stats to fill in the gaps or back up what you’re seeing

Try to do transfers late where possible to gather more info

But also keep an eye on price changes - you don’t want to be priced out of planned moves

Try to save your chips to use to prepare for, or play, “special” GWs e.g. double Gameweeks (some teams play twice) or blank weeks (some teams don’t play)
