A thread on food poverty and insecurity in the UK. I’m so pleased @MarcusRashford is campaigning on this issue. Our movement needed fresh thinking and I think it’s really special a young, talented and caring person has stepped up to highlight and raise awareness of the problem >
> Many families in the UK struggle financially. Poverty is a longstanding problem made worse by low income, over indebtedness AND high costs. Our research at @income_max by @JimOSull_Writer has identified many policy decisions since the 70’s that have contributed to the problem >
> The problem of poverty, including food poverty and food insecurity will continue to persist without a fresh approach. Like so many issues of today, the problems lie in the systemic failts of our economic, social and Government structures. There is much damage to repair >
> But before we embark on this journey, it’s important I highlight something important. Before we arrive at the big policy decisions required to achieve family wellbeing, WE MUST AGREE ON THE END GOAL. What is the END GOAL? For me it’s simple. We need every family to THRIVE 🌱
If we know our END GOAL we can all pull together to make it happen. This shouldn’t be a topic that divides political thinking. We should be UNITED on this as human beings together. We must do WHATEVER it takes to make sure children in the UK are fed, clothed, warm and can thrive
> Policy decisions COUNT. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is all about individual responsibility, bad choices, fecklessness or bad luck. The state plays a MASSIVE part in the life chances & survival of our citizens. From the economy to health, housing, education, opportunity >
> and more, the decisions made by Government RIGHT NOW on this issue count. As we rebuild our world we can re-shape it to meet the needs of families. Let’s rebuild with love, kindness and compassion. Let’s create a world where every child can thrive. NOW IS THE TIME.
