20 yrs ago I was a volunteer with @GlasgowCentCAB. They not only helped people with problems, but trained advisers to help others. I remember dealing with a young woman from sub-Sahara Africa whose whole family has been murdered and fled to the UK
2) She was locked behind her door everyday on her own, having it kicked in by racists, and didn't know where to turn.
I dealt with a woman with early onset Hunterian Disease who couldn't care for her daughter, as she didn't want a diagnosis as her mother had died from it.
3) I dealt with evictions, repossessions, welfare right appeals and done my first court representation in Glasgow Sheriff Court.
I did my first bankruptcy under the supervision of their advisers. I dealt with people terminally ill. People who were homeless.
4) All over Glasgow these services are facing closure. @CastlemilkLaw @ParkheadCAB @BridgetonCAB @EasterhouseCAB, others like @GovanLawCentre are facing cuts. Many closed and could only offer restricted services during lockdown hoping they would reopen again. Some may never.
5) #SaveOurServices
If the Tories had proposed closing front line advices services just when the furlough scheme was ending and during a global pandemic and the worst financial crisis since 1929 there would be uproar. Don't be quiet now.
