songfic thread based specifically on these two boys in suits & dancing in the dark by joji (krbk and one sided pining deku)

UA is known for shaping proheroes and attracting unwanted villains, yet when it comes to events they don’t know how to adhere to a “budget”. standing by the entrance of gym gamma, blinding streaks of colours flash at party-goers.
somehow fitting well with popular song dynamite by BTS, as it reverberates throughout the entire gym...?

well, it’s hardly a gym anymore, especially with over-the-top decorations entirely make up of streamers and balloons. there is even a buffet spread and oh my god is that
a chocolate fountain? not that izuku minds, in fact he kinda likes how colourful and alluring the training ground has transform for tonight’s prom event.

that’s right, this is izuku’s first high school prom experience and honestly, he came here with low expectations.
oh and with his friends too, obviously.

“deku!” he gasps as uraraka approaches him in a flamboyant pink dress. they hug and squeal at having to lose their prom virginity together. soon, more familiar faces pop up, and izuku tries not to look out for a specific someone.
izuku doesn’t get it - it’s already been two months, and it shouldn’t matter to him if /he/ comes to prom or not.

for all izuku cares, he can even attend prom with /his/ stupid gauntlet and izuku will not bat his eyes. nope. tonight is about having fun with his friends.
what can possibly go wrong?

izuku sets his focus on his friends, laughs and makes jokes with them as they enjoy themselves on the dance floor.

everything feels like magic, until the upbeat song is replace with one that makes izuku’s skin crawl.
“hey, deku you don’t wanna dance?” uraraka calls out, her arm slinging with iida’s. izuku kindly declines, something about feeling unwell as he watches his friends from the sideline.

the familiar instrumental fills the gym as people quickly pair up with one another.
of course they have to play this song, after all this is prom night.

izuku drinks from his cup of punch, eyeing at the crowd with envy. just as the song starts, izuku’s breath hitches at the sight of someone he hopes to never see that night.
/I don’t want a friend/
/I want my life in two/
/Waiting to get there/
/Waiting for you/

he sees a mess of familiar yellow hair, red shirt in a grey vest swaying along to this god forsaken song. izuku doesn’t have to see the man’s face to imagine his soft facial features,
the twinkles of adoration in those red “scary” eyes. for a second, izuku sees himself dancing in those arms, his hands gently feeling the red fabric beneath his fingertips.

for a second, izuku’s heart flutters at the visualisation, but reality has other plans for him.
/When I’m around, slow dancing in the dark/
/Don’t follow me, you’ll end up in my arms/

he sees another man with red hair, in a grey blazer and red tie. their hands interlock with each other, their bodies press together as they move in sync.

so painfully compatible.
izuku chuckles under his breath, isn’t it cute to see how awfully good they look? yet, his heart aches at the sight of them, basking in their blissful romance. something that izuku wishes he could have a taste again.
/You done made up your mind/
/I don’t need no more signs/
/Can you? Can you?/

izuku rarely harbours feelings of hate or envy. but tonight oh boy, he is full of hate for joji and absolutely fuming green towards the two men.

it used to be their song, as he would twirl izuku
around in his room, trying to teach the boy how to slow dance.

“shitty nerd, are you paying attention?” kacchan snared, as izuku gave out a heartfelt laugh. their fingers were interlocked, bodies pressed against eachother.
given their size difference, it was only natural that izuku had to peek upwards. a scrowl settled into kacchan’s features, yet his eyes remained soft for izuku.

reserved only for izuku, and no one else. thinking about it only made izuku’s heart raced excitedly.
/Give me reasons we should be complete/
/You should be with him, I can’t compete/

but someone interrupted their moment, izuku recalls. who else could it be that wanted kacchan’s attention just as desperately as he did?

“what do you want shitty hair? kacchan barked,
and izuku swore he saw the corners of kacchan’s lips turned slightly upwards. izuku knew kirishima and kacchan were close, they were practically two peas in a pot!

which shouldn’t matter to izuku right? since kacchan was his to begin with.
who said you can’t have a secret relationship and allow your partner to be chummy with their bestfriend? obviously izuku would do anything to make kacchan happy.

so why did he feel used when kacchan told him to get out because kirishima was coming over that day?
/You looked at me like I was someone else, oh, well/

izuku prided himself as the gatekeeper of kacchan, the only one who truly knew the brash individual. but there were nights where izuku couldn’t understand what kacchan was thinking.
or maybe he did, and chose to remain ignorant. it wasn’t his fault that he wanted to be selfish.

the signs were obvious from the get go, how kirishima’s touch would linger a few seconds too long, how kacchan would ruffled his “shitty hair” with more care and concern.
/Can’t you see?/
/I don’t wanna slow dance in the dark/

izuku continues to watch them, like that one big ugly stain that can’t be remove. the way they look peaceful, how izuku can hear the slight, “bakubro” and “shitty hair” from them.

perfect pair, aren’t they?
/When you gotta’ run/
/Just hear my voice in you/
/Shutting me out/
/You doing so great/

izuku wonders, despite the calm facade, do they argue just as badly as he did with kacchan? do they hurled words fueled with spite and bitterness, completely engulfed with anger only to
regret it until one of them breaks down in tears? knowing fully well that both boys were accountable for the words that they couldn’t take back.

that they had to live everyday with that constant insecurity ringing in their heads, “did he really meant what he said?”
