I really want to talk about the philosophy in Re:Zero storytelling since it attracts my perception and viewpoint of how I can relate to Subaru’s view. It might be early to consider it since we’re still in the starting point of its anime adaptation.

However, I’ll just say.
Re: Zero is an unique world that shows and tells us about every person to prioritize their own goal and motives rather than just “stick together for the plot”. Most people misunderstood about the show as “for the sake of suffering porn”, but in reality, life is always suffering.
When Subaru suddenly came to another world, he always have the point with his “otaku” mindset that the meaning of “being sent to another world” is prophecy, but as the plot goes further with Emilia, it really shares the similar suffering to the IRL prophets from the Bible.
Being prejudiced, being fallacious, being cursed, being mistreated, and any kinds of harsh treatment is a wake-up call for Subaru of how reality can be cruel on its own ways. Probably that’s why most anime fans find it “bothersome”... It’s because of every consequences.
But who started it? What is the source of its insanity? Or rather who?

It’s Subaru himself and his own mind. That’s what the flaws of Subaru intrigued us to know the aspects of how the world reacted from Subaru’s action.

His inferior overconfidence triggers his own grief.
Referring to the Dunning-Krugger effect, once a fool was confident to do at first, but then he/she realizes that he/she must doubt himself/herself first before facing it.

His perseverance through many trials and challenges made him lost and then found its way throughout mistake
Which is why I find Re: Zero to be wholesome series to me since it was really “out-of-the-box” from all-around dangers that might force us to go back at our comfort cage, but instead I just face it.
