New BBC boss warns comedians not to joke about the government & its signature policy of brexit, and not to mock the Tories or Trump...

A chilling move to politicise entertainment shows and put them in the service of the ruling party.

This threat to artistic freedom is a terrible signal, and it (probably deliberately) misunderstands the nature of political satire, which always targets those in power and their policies. What does he want? Jokes about people who aren& #39;t in power?
And what is "right-wing comedy" anyway? Anyone have any examples?
Judging by this article, "right-wing comedy" means attacking the powerless rather than the powerful - and "punching down" jokes about poor people, disabled people and sexual assault victims.

So, this what the new BBC boss wants? Vile. https://bit.ly/2G76prR ">https://bit.ly/2G76prR&q...

I’m old enough to remember a Labour government, and attacks by BBC political comedy shows then were (rightly) also on the government, its policies and personalities. That is the nature of political satire: it mocks those in power. Anything else would be propaganda.
