Depersonalization Episodes and How The FUCK You Can Deal With Them!

(A thread)
Depersonalization / Derealization is marked as a feeling of being disconnected, robotic, or even apathetic. Your vision may be distorted, your body may feel weird and "floaty", or you might even think your limbs and joints are disconnected!
For most people, it feels as if you're living life as a dream, as if you're in third person. Your body might feel like it doesn't "belong to you". This is completely normal for a depersonalization / derealization episode!
Now, you'll probably feel really uncomfortable, or you might not feel "right". The important thing is to stay calm. Focusing on this weird sort of "floating" or "empty" feeling will only worsen the symptoms!
Try reading aloud! This stimulates your cognitive skills, and can sometimes even be the thing that pulls you back to reality! Try listening to music, or drawing, or even doing Sudoku! Anything will help as long as 1. You enjoy doing it, and 2. It distracts you!
VERY IMPORTANT! Your brain is going to be very sensitive during these episodes! Avoid overloading your brain with visuals or sounds! These can worsen your episode!
For myself, I usually do all of these things to try to distract myself and calm myself down, though they only pull me back out to reality every so often. Episodes are different for everybody! The important thing is to stay calm!
What you're feeling is completely normal! There's no need to fret and worry over it! If you can, try to hang out and talk with a friend or be near a pet! These "real" things can help you from drifting too far off into your episode!
I hope this thread helps any of y'all that might be suffering from these episodes. You're not alone! It's perfectly fine to deal with these things! I love you all, please take care!!
