A thread about blaming people who live where hurricanes hit.

First of all, tell me where it is safe.

Where doesn’t flood, have earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes, wildfires - where is safe? Where on the planet? You tell me.
I’ve lived in Houston, Lake Charles, New Orleans.

All have been destroyed by these storms.

We have been lucky so far but just about everyone I know has lost everything.

So.....what? Move?

Ok let’s investigate that.
Let’s start with New Orleans.

Do you know how important that port is? Where do you relocate it?

Same with Houston.

Do you know how many industries are in Lake Charles that make chemicals for stupid stuff you don’t need but will be mad when you learn the supply is disrupted?
So let’s do your idea and shut down the gulf coast.

Let’s relocate Johnson Space Center, Michoud, and Stennis Space Center. Hell let’s add Kennedy Space Center most for fun.

Ok now what? How does #NASA work now?
Why aren’t working on solutions to these problems instead of well people shouldn’t live there?

Here are the excuses I’m hearing:

“The Ike Dike will take 15 years to build” - ok, so now let’s just not build anything?

Not an argument.
It will be expensive.

Yeah the more we keep building up these places, and the stronger the storms are, guess what - not cheap, my dudes.

Again, we live in a world where people balk at the cost of big projects.

Would have really sucked for NASA in the 60’s, but whatever.
There are communities in Louisiana already having to relocate because of rising water.

You know we could do stuff to change that, right?

The Louisiana Wetlands are disappearing way too fast.

NASA is studying them, among others.

Expecting millions of people to just move because you’re too lazy and cheap to do great things isn’t a viable solution.

Plus, where do we move to? Other places with natural disasters?

Nahhhh. There are solutions. You just don’t like them. https://abc13.com/ike-dike-spine-hurricane-laura/6394450/
