Yall ready to see me rant about an obscure character that literally no one talks about from a show that no one knows about? No? Well too bad, cuz I& #39;m OBSESSED
Okay, but the show Charmed. Not the new reboot, I& #39;m talking 1998 Charmed. Specifically, I wanna talk about 1 dude. CHRIS
Okay, but the show Charmed. Not the new reboot, I& #39;m talking 1998 Charmed. Specifically, I wanna talk about 1 dude. CHRIS
THIS DUDE RIGHT HERE. I have a lot of things to say about this poor angsty individual, especially since I feel like a lot of the things I& #39;m interested in weren& #39;t really fleshed out in the show. So yeah, major spoilers for Charmed, but it came out in 1998, so yeah.
Okay, first things first. My dude TIME TRAVELS to the PAST just so he has a CHANCE at maybe possibly stopping some demon (that he has absolutely NO information about) from turning his brother evil in the future and consequentially saving the entire world as everyone knows it.
So Chris is one dedicated dude right? He came back with a MISSION and he& #39;s gonna do everything in his power to complete it. Not to mention the fact that he has to walk around his family from the past without telling them anything and dealing with their suspicions about him.
And ON TOP OF ALL THAT, he& #39;s gotta do all of this while also dealing with the fact that he& #39;s around his mother all the time...his mother WHO DIED WHEN HE WAS A KID IN THE FUTURE. Oh yeah, and he& #39;s also gotta deal with his father, who he never had a good relationship with.
So that& #39;s what he& #39;s going through. But my main thing about Chris is just how WELL he hides all of his trauma throughout the show. I mean, this dude was a MACHINE. He was killings demons left and right, protecting wyatt (his brother), dodging questions from his parents, etc.
And the whole time, he kept so many things bottled up because he just felt like he COULDN& #39;T tell his family anything (you know, future consequences and all that). And then there& #39;s a part of me that thinks that he just didn& #39;t know HOW to be open and honest even if he could.
Remember, chris is coming from a future timeline where the whole world pretty much went to hell. His brother is an evil overlord and chris spent most of his time just trying to survive, and help other people survive too. And it& #39;s not like chris isn& #39;t powerful, because he IS.
Dude is the second son of two of the most powerful people in existence. His mother was one of the most powerful witches and his father was a powerful deity. Of COURSE he& #39;s strong. He just wasn& #39;t as magically strong as wyatt. But I feel like where wyatt was strong, chris was smart
How else could chris have avoided wyatt and stayed alive all those years? And lets not forget, chris was the one who figured out the time travel spell, even with all the complications in the future that should have stopped him. Yeah, chris is a really strong really smart dude.
But that& #39;s just the thing! Chris HAS to be all of those things because it was the only way to survive. He was FORCED to adapt to the circumstances around him, from his mother& #39;s death to his father& #39;s absence, to his brother& #39;s evil, and the demon& #39;s attack. Chris had no breaks.
Dude spent SO much of his life looking over his shoulder and overthinking everything for so long, that he doesn& #39;t really no how to relax. So when he goes to the past, the charmed ones (his mother and her two sisters) and his father call him "paranoid" and "neurotic".
What they don& #39;t (and can& #39;t) understand is that he has EVERY REASON TO BE. He& #39;s seen exactly how bad things can turn out, which is why he& #39;s so pressed to fix things. So it& #39;s incredibly frustrating for him to be brushed aside by them all the time (though they had reason to be wary)
The thing that grates on me the most is just how TERRIBLY they treat him when he first shows up. Like, I understand being cautious and suspicious of a random dude from the future, but that& #39;s no reason to treat the dude like trash. He& #39;s OBVIOUSLY trying to help.
They were all so pressed to see chris as a bad guy, they didn& #39;t even consider all of the actions he was taking to protecting wyatt. No one thanked him for all the times he saved their lives. No one noticed how dead tired and stressed and exhausted he was all the time.
But THEN, (and this is the best part) THEN they find out that Chris is Wyatt& #39;s brother, and therefore a part of their family, and suddenly all the tables turn! They feel so guilty, and remorseful, and they want to include him in everything, and that just doesn& #39;t sit right with me
You& #39;re telling me that the only reason they really trust chris and listen to him and hear him out is because he& #39;s FAMILY??? What about all the things he& #39;s done for them? How did they expect him to just be okay with the way that they treated him because "they didn& #39;t know"
IT SHOULDN& #39;T HAVE MATTERED. Even if chris wasn& #39;t a part of the family, they should have treated him better on the sole basis of who he was as a PERSON. This dude got SHOT WITH AN ARROW for them! He came back time and time again, even when they pushed him away.
So yeah, Chris deserved better. Im still not cool with how everyone treated him when he showed up. He did so much for them and they paid him dirt
Ngl, this thread probably makes next to no sense, I just really had to rant about something and this was the first thing I thought of
