Our resignation from the church we planted is old news. But I’ve heard some people are asking our friends and relatives for “the real story.” Church planting is like dog years. 9 years was really like, what, 63? Multiply that by 3 campuses. We were worn out. That’s truly it.
I got really burned out 2.5 years ago when I was going through major depression. I told my therapist, “I need you to help me cope with my life in ministry because that can’t change. *I* have to change.” We made some big adjustments for me to experience church more intimately.
This time it was Curtis. When he told me he was burned out & depressed I was shocked. I hadn’t seen it. I knew the darkness I had been through & I desperately didn’t want that for him. We had the power to change the situation before it snowballed. So we did. That’s the story.
