My siblings & I grew up in single mother house hold. Mind you our mother hates the way she sounds when she speaks Spanish and her Spanish isn’t as good as she’s wish it was. So that being said none of us grew up speaking Spanish at all besides the oldest boy bc our gma taught him
Anyways since we didn’t grow up around other Spanish speaking people we never learned it and just never grew to learn it. Which is ig you could say our fault ? Idk. But it makes me & my younger sister feel like shit when we say “ i don’t know Spanish “
Why ? Because we get made fun of an people respond with “ you’re not even Mexican then ... you’re a fake Mexican. “ when in all reality we’re not we carry on our traditions to the best that we can we speak with our elders to the best of our knowledge.
It’s just hella frustrating being made fun of for it. Like we’ve tried to learn it’s just harder since that’s one thing we’re very self conscious about because we’ve been dragged for it and we don’t “ sound Mexican “ when we speak it. Ts is annoying.
Another thing it definitely doesn’t make us any less Mexican than the person who tried to drag us for it. We all come from different places. Not everyone was brought up the same.
