As an anxious, awkward teen who grew up saying things without realizing how they landed with people, I'm holding soft spot for Brandy right now. Like... I get it. Lol.
That shit is heightened when you're in front of someone you admire or stan but may only be an acquaintance. Like, you're working overtime not to be a weirdo and it just makes shit worse.
*sigh*
*sigh*
Or if youâre in a room with someone you think is wildly cool but whose experiences are different from your own, and so you don't know what to talk about? Phew.
It seems like Brandy's voice and her music are where she's most self-assured. Take her out of those moments and into a space where she has to have one-on-one banter with a person she may not have an intimate friendship with and yeah... the anxiety is going to jump out.
And...saying "She's too old for all that" isn't terribly helpful? Adults know how old they are and what's expected in certain social situations. But merely knowing doesn't make it any easier if you struggle with these things anyway. If anything, expectations can heighten anxiety.
Anyway, I see you anxious, awkward Black girls. We're here and we're usually in the back on mute... because our lives don't require us to talk with an extremely cool contemporary for 3 hours in front of 1.2 million people.
We said we would hold more grace for people, right? Amen? Amen.
