I was at this rally. The comment in question *was* jarring - in no small part because it was so out of step with every single other speaker and how much of the crowd was looking at each other like “who is this guy?”
I wasn’t writing a daily piece on the rally. But were I, I would have included those comments low in the piece - contextualized as the odd outlier that they were. And the pivoted back to the thrust of the event: a pretty large rally calling for justice, peace and accountability
Something can be objectively true, and contextually misleading and irresponsible. We need to ask ourselves if our descriptions and framings are fair, and consider the impression our reader leaves our piece with - one might call that “moral clarity”
