There seems to be a chunk of "socialists" who ascribe the left's weakness purely to parasitic PMCs, which is more a projection of anxieties than any coherent class (as they describe it) bereft of any material analysis. They've already decided it and are in confirmation bias mode.

As political polarization continues with the development of this crisis, in the absence of any other tools, the need to explain any setback is going to just ensure the continuation of this discourse, even as the remains of the middle class are buried for good.

Assuming they hold onto whatever influence they have, this whole framework seems just poised to go full mask off reactionary if the conditions are right. Hopefully reality will just continue to make them irrelevant and their screeching will go unheard.

It's not a danger to PMCs that I really care about. Insofar as they really do harbor class interests contra the proletariat, fuck em. But its the thorough fixing of class to cultural signifiers alone, a disastrous, easily recuperated (already is happening and has happened) gambit

Obviously, this often couples with social conservatism, decrying PMCs as the source of all the new-fangled pronouns and promiscuity and other Bad Things. This is an old script and in a sense is an organic outgrowth of developments since the 60s.

Many have said this, but their "class reductionism" is purely cultural, reproducing all the superficial idpol exceptionalism they claim to oppose. Besides being an utter deadend vis a vis socialism, it lends itself to false oppositions between racial/gender oppression and class

Basically, they're our very own socialist rightists, organically arising from the decay of the old worker's movement, who are and will continue to enable reaction, and counter-revolution if given the chance

They are anti-communists, they only provide an obstacle. Not because they're creating a fash pipeline or are right wing entryists, but because they take the dumbest propositions of the old socialists and mix it with a genteel reaction against cultural change

The point of this thread is basically that they are backwards and to an extent (yet to be seen really) dangerous. But at the same time they are an organic mutation of contemporary socialism, or rather a product of the space that the working class has maneuver in
