Art. I, Sec. 8, Cl. 12 of the Constitution requires Congress to appropriate funds for the Army every two years. Why? It's because the Framers were afraid that a strong Executive could create a "standing army" that he could command against its citizens, and wanted a check 1/
Trump's base is effectively a "shadow" standing army. He is basically trying to mobilize them in the way the Framers feared, using their 2A rights (intended to protect AGAINST a tyrannical central gov) to turn against their fellow citizens...without any check 2/
I imagined the possibility that he would do this, from the day he was elected. But I also imagined that local and federal law enforcement, or the military, would ensure that such an effort wouldn't succeed, and certainly not on a mass scale. I think I might be wrong. END
