Saw this new symbol of gentrification in #Lewisham today.

They decided to cover up all the construction hoarding graffiti that read “ACAB” with this. I give it until Friday before somebody writes “Punch Racists” over the top of it.

You just know whatever overpriced nonsense they are building behind that hoarding is going to have a Little Waitrose and a Foxton’s at the bottom of it.

I feel sick.

I mean they could have painted a mural to commemorate #TheBattleOfLewisham where far right racist thugs (NF) were literally ran off the ends. Or the #BlackPeoplesDayOfAction. Or any of the events in the rich history of anti-racism that #Lewisham actually has.

But whatever.

Gentrification isn’t just Foxton’s, Little Waitrose’s, Whole Foods, hipster coffee joints, blocky apartment buildings & ‘acceptable’ street art.

It’s also displacement, policing, & surveillance, all of which are violent.

Gentrification is violence.
Gentrification is racism.
