Politicians and media barons, in the USA and UK, are, in the main, contemptible wankers and I wonder if this is the last gasp of the privileged old white man, sensing his imminent demise (or if that’s just a flight of fancy on my part) but even I, predicted *a* pandemic. 2/n

I didn’t know it was going to be SARS-Cov-2 (tbh most microbiologists & epidemiologists feared MERS would be the next big one, or an airborne Ebola virus) or that 2020 would be when it hit, but another global pandemic was inevitable. That doesn’t make it a *plandemic*. 3/n

I’m currently so despondent at all the conspiracy theories. Come on folks; there’s little a scientist loves more than something they don’t understand. We live for this and we genuinely want to understand and make the world a tiny bit better for us being on the planet. 4/n

Do no harm; take no shit - my personal motto. I watched my mum almost die from Covid-19 and my brother (a cardiologist) is treating patients with multi-system complications and new presentation of blot clots. This is NOT like flu - this is a vascular pathogen. 6/n

Do not underestimate it. Already, myocarditis has been seen in a significant number of survivors with “mild” conditions and we don’t know enough about this virus to know what the long-term effects will be on those of us who survive. It’s wise to take precautions. 7/n

Stay 2 m away from others (reduce viral dose), wash hands regularly, keep hands away from ur face, particularly ur eyes (research has shown a large number of ACE receptors in ocular epithelial cells) & act as if you’re infected, trying not to pass the virus on to anyone else 9/n

Stay safe. We I knew a pandemic was coming and we should have been prepared - Governments purposefully did not prepare. Health services have been decimated and career politicians, big business, et al have ensured we prioritised share holders over public welfare. 10/n

Stop blaming scientists. We want to make our world a better place & we mostly earn shit wages but love our jobs - engage with us. Don’t expect us to spend *days* critically assessing data & presenting requested evidence for you to go “But Big Pharma” - grow the hell up! The end!

This is not fear, it’s excellent risk analysis and mitigation of harm. Please wear a mask - shown to reduce respiratory droplet release and thus reduce the number of viral particles released - all pathogens have a certain “dose” where they begin to cause disease. 8/n
