Poison frogs get a lot of press for their parenting skills, but parenting is much more widespread in tropical frogs. Here is a Leptodactylus petersi mom with her tadpoles doing some strange rituals. Filmed at @RNNouragues
This "pumping" behavior has been reported in several Leptodactylus species and the produced waves a speculated to function as a signal of the mom's whereabouts to the tadpoles. I suspect that there might be some chemical communication going on too.
Towards the end of the video, you can see how determined the female is to protect her babies during my "poky biologist test". Other behaviors reported in closely related species include digging canals between puddles for the tadpoles to pass!
A few more photos of the scene.
