At some point people need to grapple with the fact that Bernie's unshakable popularity was an anomaly. People trusted him because he had a long lifetime record to point to and because nobody in media viewed him as a serious threat until it was too late for them to smear him. https://twitter.com/SeanMcCarthyCom/status/1300519357211172866
What happened to AOC's favorability numbers will happen to all the rising stars of the left from now on. They'll be younger, they probably won't be white men. The right-wing media will set their sights on them from day one and will be able to craft a big part of the narrative
The problem is not that AOC is too intersectional or whatever, it's that she is under constant attack from the right, her own party has no interest in defending her, and the left doesn't have enough power to influence media narratives enough to defend her either
Turning on her now isn't going to help. We need to adopt an even more defensive posture of her and all the socialists in congress. How did all the complaining and half-hearted defenses work out for the British left when their media and their own party smeared corbyn?
It's worth noting that the media hit job worked on Bernie as well, they just focused on "electability" instead of his actual favorability. By 2020, most people's impressions of him were pretty solidly formed. That didn't mean they weren't still the decisive factor in his loss
