At some point people need to grapple with the fact that Bernie& #39;s unshakable popularity was an anomaly. People trusted him because he had a long lifetime record to point to and because nobody in media viewed him as a serious threat until it was too late for them to smear him. https://twitter.com/SeanMcCarthyCom/status/1300519357211172866">https://twitter.com/SeanMcCar...
What happened to AOC& #39;s favorability numbers will happen to all the rising stars of the left from now on. They& #39;ll be younger, they probably won& #39;t be white men. The right-wing media will set their sights on them from day one and will be able to craft a big part of the narrative
The problem is not that AOC is too intersectional or whatever, it& #39;s that she is under constant attack from the right, her own party has no interest in defending her, and the left doesn& #39;t have enough power to influence media narratives enough to defend her either
Turning on her now isn& #39;t going to help. We need to adopt an even more defensive posture of her and all the socialists in congress. How did all the complaining and half-hearted defenses work out for the British left when their media and their own party smeared corbyn?
It& #39;s worth noting that the media hit job worked on Bernie as well, they just focused on "electability" instead of his actual favorability. By 2020, most people& #39;s impressions of him were pretty solidly formed. That didn& #39;t mean they weren& #39;t still the decisive factor in his loss
