this adele and bantu knots thing going on made me think about how kpoppies dragged girlkind for CA because the were only able to recognize only one of the members wearing box braids but never mentioned the other one wearing bantu knots, i myself had to say where it comes from
my tribe of origin also uses the hairstyle for celebrations or as a protective hairstyle, it really shows how little people in general know about african culture but will always try and advocate for us for mere validation or a few likes and rts on this app
always felt as if CA was never taken seriously, ever since kpoppies learned that word it has been used very loosely, pretty much out of context and most of the time as a way to create fanwars which is very very sad, the you have african americans imposing their ways of thinking
african americans have the bad habit of ignoring diasporic experiences when it comes to CA and racism, the rest of the african diaspora don't really face the same amount of racism african american does in their own country, this is why you'll see some of them unbothered
ofc adele case is different from kpop which was mostly built off of black culture considering that the first kpop group was hip hop (seo taiji) but it really shows how sensitive people can be that they would ditch context and logic just to find something to be angry about
this is why everytime someone "appropriates" i am always looking for the source and the context before jumping on the hate bandwagon, and if the case fits the culture appropriation definition then i'll be angry about it too, adele here did nothing wrong i am not going to lie
