Last time I was in Mulanje was 2012. It has been 8 years since. Wow, so many things have happened in those years. One thing I want to talk about is loss of trees. Sometimes, it feels like those responsible just gave up. 1/10
8 years ago I came to this same place, walked the riverine near Kara 'O Mara. All the giant trees that lined the river have gone. A couple of trees remained (some are in pictures). The river is now a semi-perennial, reduced to a pathetic stream. 2/10
Tears fall down instead of sweat as you look up to the Chilemba Peak, forests have vanished. How did that happened? While on the riverine I run into a man preparing a new charcoal burn. I asked him if it was allowed to make charcoal in the reserve, 3/10
he said he knew it's illegal but he has no option but to break the law and earn a living. That gave me a thought: as governmental departments are being reformed, I beg our President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and the Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima to really empower the 4/10
Forestry Department as it was prior to multiparty Era. The department has suffered cuts in human resources, funding and others in the past governments. As a result, we have seen loss of forests all over Malawi. I am aware of the NGOs in Mulanje tasked with 5/10
conservation and their challenges. As a member of WESM, I am also aware of the biological importance of Mulanje Mountain. The question is how can we protect the endemic species of both flora and fauna, if the forestry department remains underfunded and powerless? 6/10
NGOs can't do much without government's enormous arm. Great biomes such as Mulanje, Ntchisi, Nyika, and Misuku needs not a regular agency funding. They need the whole lot chunk of money. We need to change our mindset and political will like our lives depend on it. 7/10
This is my prayer.

What will I write in the next 8 years? What pictures will I show in next 8 years? 8/10
The current trend does not guarantee Mulanje's survival beyond. Let be assure I'll have a story in 8 years. What will be the story? 10/10
