In July 2017, I wrote a synopsis and started a script. Just for fun. It’s taken me 3 bloody years, but we are getting there!!! I had to learn how to write for a comic, how to write a comic script, and how to draw comics.
It took dissecting all 105 episodes of Gatchaman, 5 books on writing &/or drawing comics, multiple articles, blog posts, and tutorials by fellow creators, a slew of YouTube breakdowns on what makes good comics work, & learning how to draw digitally in 3 programs & 2 formats.
Not to mention perfecting my ‘Tatsunoko’ style. On Friday, I sent out a rough draft version of THE ENTIRE 1st chapter to test readers. All 43 pages of preliminary work for CH1 are done. As long as my test readers don’t see any major snags, I’ll start the final art next week.
I tried starting the final art before while still completing my preliminary layouts and this was a terrible idea. This time, I also added in all the text and dialogue (and word bubbles) to make damn sure it doesn’t clash with the art.
Stay tuned, a real Origin Story is coming. It might just be fan made, but I’ve bridged the gaps & filled in the holes as if Tatsunoko themselves were paying me to do so.
Next summer, in it’s full technicolor glory, you will finally get to see how fate ties together The Eagle, The Condor, and The Doctor. Gatchaman Origins won’t just be a retelling of what you already know, though it is very close to canon.
It will bring in fresh characters, dangerous intrigue, & hints of things to come. It will also make you feel every emotional beat from the original show even stronger than before, everything that made your heart soar, and everything that utterly broke it.
