If anyone's nervous about their first day as a teacher, here's a recount of mine
(thread):

I nervously walked my class in from the playground, sat them on the carpet and tripped on a chair leg, falling arse over tit, landing on top of two girls sitting on the carpet. (1)
After the laughter subsided (about an hour later) I got my register & realised that after my year of teacher training no one had ever shown me how to do a register. In a panic I ticked all boxes only to have it returned an hour later by the office. (2)
Then a boy called Ashley point blank refused to take his head out from under his jumper and despite my asking, pleading, threatening him several times, spent the entire morning in there, instantly destroying any illusion of control I had. (3)
My 1st lesson (numeracy hour) had to be abandoned 30 mins in as I realised that I had absolutely no idea what it was that I was trying to teach. My TA in an attempt to make me feel better told me that the last teacher she worked with had a way of making it really clear. (4)
My break duty ended with me running around the playground shouting into the wind trying to get the whole school to line up with them all ignoring me and the head coming to tell me that his top tip for any NQT was buy yourself a whistle. (5)
At the end of the day I saw my class out and came back in to my room to find the caretaker who scarpered out of the room. The head and deputy then came in to see how I'd got on. As we stood there, I realised why he'd run out as the horrific smell of his fart filled the room (6)
which I was far too embarrassed to say was delivered by the caretaker and not me, meaning we had to stand there making polite conversation as the smell got worse and worse with them probably panicking about who they had hired (7)
15 years I stayed at that school and left as a member of the SLT, so if your first day doesn't quite go how you imagined, don't worry, things will get better

Good luck! (8)
